Class of 2013

Bernard Beaudreau is the executive director of Serve Rhode Island, the state’s center for volunteerism and national service.

Bernie has held that position since 2008 and prior to that he was the Vice President of Development for the Global Foodbanking Network, which is a non-governmental organization based in Chicago.

He raised $4.5 million dollars for the start-up of that organization. While there he also had the opportunity to assist food banks in Mexico, Ghana and Guatemala.

Before heading to Chicago, Bernie was the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank for nine years. During that time, he oversaw the growth in its annual budget from $800,000 in 1995 to $4.2 million dollars in 2006.

The food bank also increased its food distribution from 3 million pounds to nine million pounds and the number of Rhode Islanders served from 25 thousand to 50 thousand annually.

Bernie holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree in Community Planning from the University of Rhode Island. He received the URI Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006.
