Class of 2015

David Belisle has devoted more than three decades to the youth of Cumberland and Woonsocket as a hockey and Little League Baseball coach.

He has worked alongside his dad Bill as Assistant Hockey Coach at Mount Saint Charles Academy. Since 1980 the team has won 30 state championships.

Several of the players he helped coach went on to have outstanding professional careers in the National Hockey League. They include Brian Lawton and Bryan Berard.

Dave has managed two Little League Baseball teams in Cumberland to Rhode Island and New England championships and World Series trips to Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 2011 and 2014.

Many will remember Dave for his touching speech he gave to his players following their heart-breaking loss in the 2014 Little League World Series. He stressed sportsmanship and pride. His speech went viral and was heard around the world.

Dave has received the Stan Musial Award and was nominated for the 2014 Sports Illustrated Sportman of the Year Award.

Stephen Keener, the President and CEO of Little League International referred to Dave as “one of the finest examples of a Little League coach I’ve ever seen.”
