Requesting Research

In addition to its online databases, AFGS, through its Research Committee, accepts research requests.

AFGS accepts research requests for the following:

  • French Canadian ancestors
  • Vital records of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont that include births/baptisms, marriages, and deaths/burials
  • Copies of AFGS microfilm records including vital records from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont within certain year limitations, along with the Drouin Microfilm of the Canadian records from 1606 to 1940.
  • AFGS does not research adoptions.
  • AFGS members receive discounted fees on all research requests.

How to Request Research

On each page below, you will find options and costs and may request research online or by mail via a downloadable form. If you’re requesting research by mail please supply any pertinent information you may have. Using a five-generation chart gives us as much information as possible, so that we will know where to begin the research.

After receiving your request, you will receive a notification that your research request has been received. It will include the date the research was received and a date after which you may contact the Society if you have not received an answer. To request research, please choose one of the following:

+ REQUEST FRENCH CANADIAN ANCESTOR OR VITAL RECORDS
+ REQUEST MICROFILM RECORDS

The Film Room Copy Service is for requesting copies of AFGS microfilm records that are stored in our Film Room. For more information, please call us at (401) 765-6141 or email research@afgs.org .
